The annual Wests Tigers Challenge Shield has been shared for the second consecutive year.
The shield is contested each season by the Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs Clubs with matches played in the under 13, 14, 15 and 17 age groups.
The shield was contested at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Tuesday, July 4, with Balmain and Western Suburbs winning two games each.
Wests Tigers players Stuart Flanagan, Shannon McDonnell, Rocky Trimarchi and Shannon Gallant were on hand to present the man-of-the-match awards.
Authentic Bricklaying proudly sponsored the Balmain Tigers teams.
The opening game saw Western Suburbs win 10-0 in the under-13s after both teams were locked 0-0 at half-time.
Wests settled down in the second half and scored two unanswered tries to win. Aiden Jacivedes was named man-of-the-match for the Tigers.
Balmain won a thrilling match 20-10 on the back of a foundation laid by Brodie Monroe, Joel Luani, Sam Brock and Nick Bligh.
The breaks made by the free-running James Coote led to two tries and broke the spirit of the Wests team in the second half.
Lachlan Jenson was outstanding at halfback and struck an immediate partnership with five-eighth Quinn Filipaina.
The dummy half work from Joel Brooks and Shannon Savidis should not be underestimated, nor should the hard work done by the front row of Atu Polotoni, Jack Horgan and Ben Mortimer.
Corey Ashby got off to a great start with his try and always looked dangerous. He and Jason Hayward were solid in defence and created opportunities for the wingers.
Lachlan Harris scored a good try while Usaia O’Sullivan and Daniel Crichteal always looked dangerous and organised the defence out wide. Peter Flint was safe at fullback while Ryan Kain was devastating in defence.
Jesse Hewitt played well above his weight while Waisiki Tokaduadua was injured after only a few minutes.
Joel Luani was named man-of-the-match for Balmain.

Balmain Tigers won 18-16 in an exciting match.
In a tight tussle filled with tough defence and hard running, Balmain scored on the bell to snatch victory. Josh Fedele was named the Balmain’s man-of-the-match.

Western Suburbs won 24-22 in another game that went right down to the final whistle.
Western Suburbs raced to an 18-0 lead before Balmain hit back through tries to second rower Matt Corcoran and five-eighth McGuire Tatola to trail 18-12.
It became 18-16 when Jarryd Boyd scored a length of the field try before Wests scored again for a 24-16 lead.
Matt Corcoran crossed for his second try for Balmain with 8 seconds left on the clock for 24-22 scoreline. McGuire Tatola was named the Balmain man-of-the-match.
