KEEBRA PARK SHSKEEBRA LOOK AHEAD TO 2012

With 2011 behind us and the remnants of Aunt Ethels mince pies hardly having cleared the lower intestine, it is already time to look ahead to the 2012 football season here at Keebra Park.

2011 was once again a succesful year with the Open A side bowing out of the National Competition in the Qld final and also winning the National schoolboys Rugby Union Sevens competition for a second year running.

Playing at Skilled Park as part of the World series was an experience the boys will not easily forget. 2012 kicked off with the contracted boys spending a week with the Wests Tigers and completing a series of training sessions.

They are all now back at school and looking forward to some hard work in the gym and on the paddock as they stake their claims for a position in the team.

Kurtis Rowe, Andrew Vella, Bradley Soe, Michael Kai, Nofoa Leapai, Manaia Rudolf and Connor Toia continue to impress in the Toyota Cup trials at Wests and Henare and Dallas Wells along with Brandon Tago seem to be fitting in well with the Roosters.

With recruitment becoming increasingly more competitive,we have cast the net a little wider this year and as well as drawing on our obvious talent pools in Southern Qld, Northern NSW and New Zealand, we ventured in to the UK and Russia.

This foray will see a number of boys from the St Helens and Hull areas join the school along with some possibility of a few Ivan Dragos from Russia.

This opportunity can only improve the football of both the boys and the school and is something we are all excited about. Well i better get back to the grindstone and will keep you posted on further developments.

KEEBRA SET TO DEFEND NATIONAL SEVENS TITLE

Reknowned Rugby League nursery, Keebra Park will switch codes this weekend as it prepares to defend its National Rugby Union Sevens Title.

Winning the competition in 2010 was a real achievement for the small State High School from the Gold Coast and a win this year would cement the school as a force to be reckoned with in the seven man code.

The final is to be played a s a curtain raiser to the Hyperion Gold Coast Sevens at Skilled Park and is sure to draw a huge crowd.

Winning the Qld component of the National competition earlier this year, qualified Keebra who will now face off against the best talent from the other States.

The knock out rounds are being held at the Tallebudgera Sports Camp and the Final will be played at Skilled Park later in the day.

KEEBRA TROPHY CABNET HEALTHY
Keebra Park SHS have won Open Boys division of the All Schools touch football competition after a hard fought 5 tries to 4 victory over Rockhampton’s Emmaus College at the White Hills Sporting Complex in Brisbane at the weekend.

Defending their title, this year’s success makes it three straight wins in the competition and cements Keebra’s reputation as the best touch football team in this age group in the State. While Keebra Park has always been considered a traditionally strong rugby league school, many of its past graduates including, Benji Marshall, Corey Norman, Greg Eastwood and the newly crowned English Super League’s “Man of Steel” Rangi Chase, all played touch football for the school and their legacy evident in the latest crop of athletes.

A semi-final win over Bundaberg SHS set up the Grand Final encounter with Emmaus College who had disposed of Kirwan SHS in their semi and were looking like the team to beat, but Keebra’s dogged determination in defence proved the difference on the day and paved the way for the win.

Coach Ben Woolf praised his teams spirit and attitude.

“Some of these boys hadn’t played much touch football before but had the basic skills from their rugby league. Once we worked on a bit of structure I knew they were a chance and they stuck to the game plan and came up trumps” He said.

The boys now have a change of focus as they prepare for the upcoming Australian Schoolboys Rugby Sevens finals in November that are to be played at Skilled Park in conjunction with the World Series Sevens competition.
