ourfooty media
The Boiz are back in town, well thats not quite true, most of the team doesn't live in beautiful Sydney and had to scramble to catch connecting flights to all 4 points of the compass.

The team looked happy to be finally on Aussie soil and pretty keen to get home, we spoke to some of the players at the Ariport and they all said how much they enjoyed the tour ... more soon plus a few fotos from the Airport

Most of the Queensland boiz should be home for a late dinner, Brad is looking after 3 NSW Country boiz for the nite,

SAM TOO SWIFT FOR KIWI'S
ourfooty media
The Australian Institute of Sport touring Rugby League team smashed their New Zealand Opposition in Queenstown yesterday.

The AIS's 13 tries were too much for the local Otago Province team in good conditions at Queenstown footy Ground.

Sam Swift lead the way for the young Aussie scoring 3 first half tries to see his team go into the sheds at the half 4 - 36.

The Australian's thrilled the small Queenstown crowd with some very good football displayed by the boiz in Green and Gold.

The Aussie kicked of the second half with a footyball lesson to the local lads who although bamboozled at times, completed the odd set and tried all day against the relentless Australians

Calum Gahan from Darwin 2013 AIS team member
INTERVIEW AIS PLAYER CALUM GAHAN

Here we have sixteen year old Calum Gahan from Darwin, fresh off his man of the match performance in the first game of the AIS tour of New Zealand..

Q : How are you finding New Zealand in contrast to Darwin Calum?
A : Far colder. The colours of the landscape are far different and the sight of mountains with snow covering tells me I'm along way from home.

Q : What did it mean to take man of the match honours in such an emphatic win?
A: It was an honour to take man of the match wearing the green and gold and am certainly very proud.

Q : What are you looking forward to most about the remainder of the tour?
A : Playing the rest of the games with a good bunch of mates and furthering exploring the south island of New Zealand

Q : What has been the most enjoyable moment of the tour so far?
A: Winning the first game takes the cake and the cherry on top was the huge scoreline.

Q :What are your plans after the completion of the tour?
A : Moving to Townsville to attend Kirwan State High School and take up a scholarship with the North Queensland Cowboys and push for a place in Mal Meninga.

ANTHONY HOPES TO GO OUT WITH A BANG

BALLINA teenager Anthony Colman is hoping for a fairytale finish to his time at the Seagulls in the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League.

The Seagulls host Murwillumbah in a top-of-the-table clash at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina, tomorrow.

In a possible dress rehearsal for the grand final it could also be Colman’s last game at his home ground.

Colman, 18, is off to join the Gold Coast Titans to play in the National Youth Competition in 2014.

He is confident his Ballina side can make the grand final after falling one game short last season.

“We’ve got that same feeling, if not an even better feeling this year,” Colman said.

“I’m really enjoying first grade and I think Murwillumbah are definitely beatable. “It would be a great way to finish up after playing here for 13 years.”

Colman has achieved a lot at the Seagulls and also as a student at St John’s College Woodlawn.

He started at the club when he was five and played every year of juniors through to Under-16s.

In 2010 he represented NSW Combined Catholic Colleges for the first time.

The second-rower or centre was first scouted by the Penrith Panthers before linking up with the Titans
in 2011.

Colman travelled to Europe with the Australian Institute of Sport and Australian Rugby League Under-18 team last year.

It was coached by former NRL player Brad Drew with Colman picking up player of the match honours in a game against Wales.

The decision to join the Titans was an easy one for Colman.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. “Gold Coast is good because I can still be close to friends and family.

“Woodlawn has been a good footy school and I’ve had some good coaches there and at Ballina.”

Former teammate Alex Grant made the move to the North Queensland Cowboys this year and has had a promising season in the NYC.

Jacob Follent has also played firstgrade at Ballina and is off to the Wests Tigers next season.

“I grew up with Alex and it definitely gives me confidence seeing how well he is playing,” Colman said.

Kick-off in the NRRRL game at Kingsford Smith Park is 2.45pm.

HONOUR TO WEAR THE GREEN AND GOLD
Mudgee Guardian
OurFootyTeam.com

Mudgee Dragons under 18s captain Nick O'Hara will not forget the first time he pulled on the green and gold jumper of Australia - albeit for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

O'Hara and his Mudgee Dragons teammate Casey Burgess were members of the AIS squad that toured the UK and France for four weeks in November and early December.

The AIS played five matches against national teams from France, England and Wales, winning four of them.

O'Hara and Burgess were integral members of the team with Burgess captaining the side in their final match of the tour against the English Lions, and scoring the winning try against England Students.

O'Hara, who played three of the five games at five-eighth, said he would not forget the tour.

“It was unreal and an amazing experience,” O'Hara said. “It was a pretty big thing. I've never been overseas before.”

O'Hara said the standard of footy was “a fair bit different to Group 10.”

“They were a bit tough... it was top class over there,” he said.

“One of the English coaches came up to us after our game and said ‘we were the best AIS team that has toured', so that was good to know that.”

AIS started their campaign in southern France against the French under 19s and were beaten 26-10.

They bounced back to defeat the French under 17s 16-12.

The AIS went over to the UK and smashed the Welsh under 18s 52-12 before ending the tour on a high with wins over the Students, 36-30, and the Lions, 42-0.

“The toughest game was against the French under 17s. We were in front with only a few minutes to go then they scored. It was pretty intense,” O'Hara said.

“There was a bit of a crowd there, especially in France. They would yell out stuff but you couldn't understand them because they were speaking French.”

But it wasn't just on-field experience that O'Hara and Burgess cherished.

AIS's coaches Brad Drew and Andrew Ryan took the squad to visit areas where words like mateship, courage and honour take a whole new meaning.

The squad visited war memorials in France and O'Hara said it was a very symbolic and emotional period of the tour.

O'Hara said he couldn't play for the AIS without the support of many people, but none more so than his dad, Brad.
